The African fashion business has evolved over the years and today we are seeing the industry powered by young, ambitious designers with creative minds.
We spoke to some of the leading local and international designers at the Red Carpet Fashion Show in Cape Town, the couture calendar celebration, showcasing some of the finest creations, and taking the runway to new heights. But how difficult is it to break into the industry, not only as a designer, but also as an entrepreneur?
South African Retail trade sales increased by 5,4% year-on-year in September 2017. So the opportunity exists for designers, but how do they compete with the larger retailers?
The sub-Saharan African fashion industry represents a lamentable 1% of the $3 trillion global fashion industry. And with many designers infusing African fabrics on the runway and showrooms globally, we have started to see a great opportunity for young designers to differentiate themselves, and bring an African flair to the global stage.
